Cancun Mexico Finally Gets Uber!

For years, international travelers to Cancun and the Yucatan have lamented the lack of ridesharing options that they were used to having back home. Visitors would arrive at their resort, look around the beachy tourist town of Cancun, and wonder aloud why there wasn’t an Uber to take them to dinner or shopping or clubbing or back to their hotel after a night on the town. Well, now there IS an Uber in Cancun and it’s about time!

Uber is available in Cancun Mexico!
Uber is finally available in Cancun, and locals are excited to no longer have to rely on taxis or tuk tuks. The ride-sharing service has been operating in the tourist destination for a few weeks now, but it’s not stopping there. Uber will also be rolling out some bike sharing soon so that you can get around the resort without sweating too much while you’re waiting for your car to come by. We’re guessing we’ll see some scooters in here before long as well, because that would be awesome.

Using Uber in Cancun Mexico
Uber’s been in the news a lot lately, and it feels like everywhere you look they’re adding a new city to their list. The latest addition is Cancun, Mexico. This is such good news for travelers going to this popular vacation spot. Now instead of using taxis or risking getting into an accident with someone else driving who may not know the area well, there is now a reliable option that will get you from point A to point B at any time of day. If you’re planning on visiting Cancun anytime soon, download the app so that you can use Uber while in town.

Prices of Uber in Cancun Mexico
The prices will vary depending on the time of day, but if you are a tourist and need to catch a flight in the next day or two, it’s worth paying the premium price. You can also split your fare with other passengers so that you can share the cost. I personally think this is a great move for Cancun Mexico tourism, because now visitors won’t have to worry about having enough cash in hand to pay for transportation when they arrive!

Other Modes of Transportation
The most common way to get around in Cancun is by taxi and there are plenty of them waiting outside the airport when you arrive. They’ll take you anywhere in town for a flat fee, no matter how long it takes. You can also rent a car if you’re staying a few days, but be aware that there is only one company that has them available for rent and they can be difficult to come by in high demand periods. If you prefer to travel without your own transportation, however, or simply want something other than a taxi for the day, then scooters are an excellent option. Rental rates vary from $10-30 per day depending on what type of vehicle you need, so be sure to ask about rates before picking up your scooter at any kiosk near major attractions. The final option I will mention is traveling by combi bus in Cancun. It’s by far the cheapest and easiest way to move around while enjoying the local lifestyle. Combis run everywhere and cost only 10-15 pesos ($0.50). Just look out for the sign with large letters saying Centro which indicates where you want to go. Your first stop should always be Terminal de Transporte Terrestre which is located between downtown Cancun and Playa del Carmen (locals call it La Terminal). From there, combis go everywhere–even the smaller villages outside of the city!

Combi Buses are the Way to Travel in Cancun, Mexico

If you’re planning to travel in Cancun, Mexico by bus, you may be confused by all the different transportation options available to you. You could take a combi bus or taxi from the airport to the hotel or resort of your choice, but what if you want to go somewhere else? If that’s the case, it can be helpful to know about some other Cancun transportation options, whether you’re planning an extended stay or just on vacation in Mexico for a few days.

What is a combi bus?
Combi buses are public transportation vehicles that run on routes throughout all of Cancun. You can hop on a combi bus at any time and just pay a small fee. If you want to get off before your stop, you’ll have to tell the driver. You’ll be able to see what your current stop is by looking out of the window or asking someone nearby where it is. You’re not allowed to smoke inside the bus, but if you’re feeling hungry there’s usually food available for purchase. Finally, combi buses are air-conditioned, so even if it’s hot outside it will still feel cool inside when you ride one.

Where can you find them?
The combi buses can be found all over town and at various bus stops. They come in all shapes and sizes. The smaller ones have a capacity of 10-12 people while the larger ones have a capacity of 30-40 people. To board a combi bus you need to go up to one of the doors and either show your ticket or pay on board. Once you find a seat feel free to enjoy the ride! When you get off just tell the driver where you want to get off and they will let you know when it’s time.

How much do they cost?
Traveling by combi bus is a great way to get around while also saving money. For example, you can purchase a combi bus ticket for $.50 – $1.00 USD (about 10-20 pesos). There’s no other way to travel more economically than that! If you plan on staying in the city of Cancun during your trip, then getting around with a combi bus is the best option. But if you’re looking to explore outside of town and venture into the Mayan Riviera or Playa Del Carmen area, then renting a car may be better suited for you. However, this method will cost much more than taking a combi bus. Still, it all depends on what type of traveler you are.

What are the benefits of taking a combi bus?
While combi buses may not be as luxurious or convenient as a taxi or Uber, they have their own benefits. For one thing, they’re cheap! A ride on a combi bus costs less than $2 USD round-trip. Plus, combi buses offer an authentic local experience that can’t be found with other modes of transportation. It’s easy to spot a combi because it’s usually brightly colored and has two levels: the top level is where passengers pay for their ticket and get off, while the bottom level is where passengers wait for riders and get on. Riders typically take a seat wherever there’s available space and drivers often allow passengers to hang out by the door if there’s no space inside.
